Integrative Medicine
Integrative Medicine (also known as Nutritional Medicine or Complementary Medicne) is based on the principle that nutrients, including essential micronutrients, are required for the proper functioning of all the biochemical processes on which our bodies depend. Therefore, when treating symptoms or diseases, we look for the underlying causes of the symptoms. Although there may be a genetic piece to the puzzle, mostly it is caused by nutritional and environmental factors. Hence when we reduce the impact of those factors, your body heals itself.
Integrated medicine is not simply a synonym for complementary medicine. Complementary medicine refers to treatments that may be used as adjuncts to conventional treatment and are not usually taught in medical schools. Integrated medicine has a larger meaning and mission, its focus being on health and healing rather than disease and treatment. It views patients as whole people with minds and spirits as well as bodies and includes these dimensions into diagnosis and treatment. It also involves patients and doctors working to maintain health by paying attention to lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, quality of rest and sleep, and the nature of relationships.
Overall we use the following types of tests which help us to better treat your symptoms:
This state of the art testing gives us a view into your genetic make-up and shows us ways to improve your overall health. Consequently we are able to create a care plan for life. We use epigenetics to help us understand why you are the way you are. Your genes impact how you make the proteins that keep you alive and genetic mutations affect the manner in which your body processes nutrients.
How Integrative Medicine differs from traditional Western medicine
The goal of this type of treatment program is to get you off of pharmaceuticals and let your body do the healing. Once we have created a long term care plan, we then use many tools to have lasting positive impact on your health. Tools we use:
- Create a custom nutritional plan with our nutritional counseling team,
- routinely monitor ongoing health issues
- harmonizing hormones
- improving sexual function
- weight management
- antiaging strategies.
In addition to epigenetics and its impact on your body, numerous nutritional deficiencies can be caused by taking prescription medications, eating the typical American diet, and by digestive problems that can interfere with absorption of the proper nutrients. Our team will help you correct these abnormalities and help your body heal, balance, and thrive!
Symptoms of an out of balance microbiome
Most of us seem to have accepted that aches, pains, discomfort and even diseases are a natural state of being, particularly as we get older. Yet, wellness is the body’s natural state. We have fallen into a state of “dis-ease” because of the many toxins that are present in our air, water and food, and our nutritionally depleted diet. Yet, the body is a wonderful machine that seeks optimal health without undue chemicals and pharmaceuticals. If we give your body the support it needs by eating right and proper supplementation, we can look great, feel great and prolong a healthy life well into our old age.
Some common symptoms are:
- suffer aches and pains
- feel restless
- sleeplessness
- have trouble focusing
- moody
- experience frequent indigestion
- constantly “battle” with your weight
- low self-image
Then it could mean that your body is lacking in nutrients or that your systems are overloaded with toxins. The tests provide a window into what may be ailing you. These tests are designed to open your mind to the reasons that you may be experiencing ill health, and provide you with tools to help you on your path to optimal health. This is why Integrative Medicine is so helpful to ensure a long, healthy life.
